Read Across America

Read Across America, Coming Soon!

Read Across America, sponsored by the National Education Foundation, is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading.  The PTA is organizing a number of RAA events, including a book give-away, where each child gets to pick a book to take home with them to add to their own library.  During the next few weeks, we will continue to collect new and gently used books to be given away.  We have boxes set up in the school lobby for you to donate your books.  Want to help?  Call or email Kendra Martin at 703-333-6050 or kendra_martin@ymail.com.

About SHES PTA

SHES PTA supports Sleepy Hollow Elementary, a wonderful Fairfax County Public School of approximately 420 students in grades K-5th.  The school is in the final throes of an amazing renovation!

The SHES PTA’s mission is to work collaboratively with the parents, school faculty and the community to enhance the overall elementary school experience of the students at Sleepy Hollow.  We want to support the school; it’s students, teachers and staff.  The SHES PTA encourages parents and families to be involved in the school and the PTA in whatever ways you can.

SHES PTA Board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm in the school library.  All PTA members are welcome to attend, or you can read the minutes of these meetings by browsing to the tab "PTA BOARD/COMMITEES" on this website.  The PTA has 5 general meetings scheduled throughout the year, these meetings are listed in your PTA Calendar on the website, in the packet of information that came home with your student on the first day of school, and will also be advertised by fliers in your child’s Wednesday folder.

Browse through the website, and you will find evidence of hard working PTA volunteers everywhere.  The PTA publishes a monthly newsletter that will provide you information about upcoming PTA and school events; it publishes a free directory that will be provided to each student’s family and to each staff member at SHES.  Our Dolphin Academy program of after school classes is top notch; the PTA sponsored events are fun, family and community building events. We hope to see you at the meetings and programs sponsored by the PTA.  If you have any questions about the SHES PTA, please feel free to contact any Board member.  You will find the Board Members and their contact information listed under the “PTA Board/Committees” tab.
